Our Lady of the Lake School Catholic School Committee What is it?
The School Committee is a group of parents, teachers, and staff that serve as an advisory board for the school.
Our purpose, as defined by the articles of the school committee is as follows:
· Carry out responsibilities delegated to it by the pastor and pastor council
· Assist pastor and school principal in carrying out their leadership roles in the
parish school program.
What does the above mean in a practical sense? We are involved in the following areas as they pertain to the school:
· Planning - development of mission statement, goals, future plans.
· Financing - development of plans/means to finance educational programs
including fundraising, tuition, and budgetary.
· Public Relations - communication with various public entities regarding the
promotion of the school and its programs, and the recruitment of students.
· Major Curriculum Changes - advise staff.
· Evaluation of School Committee Goals - means of evaluating how well the
School Committee is accomplishing its goals. Accountability.
Who’s on it? Can anyone be on it?
The committee consists of parents, teachers, staff, and others concerned about the school. [This is our current roster], (link to school committee report).
The articles of the committee define that there be between 9 and 15 members on the committee. Right now we have 14 members leaving one seat available. So yes, anyone can participate as long as they meet the following criteria:
· Interest in and commitment to Catholic education and to the schools philosophy
and mission,
· Available to attend meetings and periodic in-service programs and to participate
in committee work.
· Maintain high levels of integrity and confidentiality.
· Able to deal with situations as they relate to the good of the entire school
community.
· Be a credible witness of the Catholic faith to the school community.
When does the committee meet?
We meet the second Monday of every month in the pastoral conference room at 6:30 PM.
Who can attend? Members only?
Anyone and everyone is invited to attend. We have a session where new business is discussed, and this is an ideal time to bring your concerns regarding the school to the attention of the committee. If you cannot attend yet have a concern.
