Mrs. Betty Swiston’s Biography
Thank you for choosing Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School for your child’s education. I am happy to be a part of your child’s educational team along with Mrs. Marita for science and mathematics, Ms. Shields for US History and PE Class, Ms. Betzold for music, Mrs. Parent for media , Mr. Bell as principal and of course yourself as parent and first educator of your child.
Here are some things about myself. I hope to get to know you too! I am a Life Long Resident of Northern Wisconsin. I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education from UW-Superior and taught in one year at Cathedral in Superior and then moved back to Bayfield and taught for 14 years at Holy Family School. Then I was hired as the principal of St. Louis School in Washburn and was there for 12 years. I am currently teaching in the Jr. High at OLL School as the6- 8th grade teacher of Language Arts and Religion. I have been employed in the field of Education for 29 years.
I have many interests outside of school. I enjoy many athletic activities: tennis, running, skiing, biking and golfing. I have volunteered as a coach in softball and presently teach tennis to all ages in the OLL afterschool program and during the summer. I also manage and help with the CANSKI program in the winter. I coordinate the drivers who pick up students at school and help ski at the trails. I am married and have one daughter who is currently in college.
Here are some descriptions of what I am like. I try to be honest in all parts of my life. I look for the good in each person and try to compliment them when it is shown. I look forward to the future. I except mistakes, forgive, and then go on. I set goals and work to the completion of them. I am a very even keeled person. I enjoy the field of education, enjoy teaching and encourage other teachers to try new methods. I reflect on my successes and failures as well.
I am a very organized person. I am a list maker; I am always adding to the list of tasks to achieve, ordering them according to needs and checking them off as they are completed. I make plans early for major events and contact all those involved to assure success.
I feel that I am flexible and adaptable. I am able to adapt to a variety of different situations and events and coordinate with many publics to include a variety of learning experiences for students. I am a thinker. When a need arises, I will think on a problem then devise possible solutions.
I hope to make this year a wonderful learning experience for your child.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Betty Swiston
